‘Meatballs’ Rains Down on Audiences
New films ‘Fame’, ‘Surrogates’ have middling debuts

For the second consecutive week, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs was the number one movie, with $24.6 million, leading to a total of $60 million.

Surrogates, which stars Bruce Willis but barely capitalized on him for its marketing campaign, came in second place with $15 million. A remake of Alan Parker’s seminal teen movie musical, Fame, came in third place with $10 million.

Also, in its second week, The Informant! came in fourth place. The film grossed $6.9 million, for a total of $21 million. I Can Do Bad All By Myself earned $4.8 million, bringing its total to $44.5 million.

Capitalism: A Love Story, Michael Moore’s latest guerilla documentary, earned the best per-screen average for a film so far this year, with $240,000 over four screens.
