I’d actually forgotten about this film. Remember seeing that Harrison Ford was co-starring with Brendan Fraser in a new film, but heard little to nothing about it since.
And looking at it’s January 2010 release date, on top of the notion that Ford is actually not the star but bears second billing to Fraser, I’m fearing the producers don’t want you paying attention to Extraordinary Measures.
Smacked with the CBS Films logo, this looks more like a TV movie-of-the-week than a feature film release. The melodramatic story has a father (Fraser) risk everything to help a scientist (Ford) discover a cure for his sick kids.
Based on a true story, it’s a Lorenzo’s Oil-like tale that has two well-known stars and it getting dumped into theaters during the deadest season. In other words, they’re releasing it, but there’s no confidence it will do well. If they did, I would think they’d go for a December release if only to aim for Oscar contention.
Even the trailer, which you can watch below, looks like something you may have once seen on a Sunday night on CBS, right after an episode of Murder, She Wrote.
But, you tell me, what do you think of this film?
