Batman ain’t looking too good.
The caped crusader’s suffering some serious pain under the thumb of Bane, according to the newest trailer for The Dark Knight Rises released today.
This is the most detailed looked at the story of the latest — and last — sequel in Christopher Nolan’s epic Batman trilogy.
The story appears to be borrowing (as has been theorized online) from the Knightfall comic book series in the 1990s, which introduced Bane, a villainous brute who beats Batman/Bruce Wayne, breaking his back. As a result, another takes up the cape and cowl with a fancy metal suit before Wayne returns — healed — to take back the mantle of the Bat.
Although I would be surprised if the film followed that series quite that closely, it does appear the story will borrow at least the conceptual notions.
I think it’s also pretty clear that Bane’s voice is different. Its far less mechanical and garbled than it was in last year’s trailer. I also really enjoyed how the film was so silent, yet filled with loud imagery.
Parts of this film were shot in NYC, and I could easily spot a few in this trailer. One scene was clearly the 59th Street bridge, while shots of the Bat jet were filmed outside where I work in downtown Manhattan.
What do you think of this trailer? Is this the super hero film you’re most looking forward to this summer?
