The Expendables was a blast.

The Expendables 2 looks like it’s going to be a super nova.

The first official trailer for the flick, which includes the return of Sylvester Stallone, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Jason Statham, Randy Couture and Terry Crews from the first film, debuted online today.

It also includes Bruce Willis, who made a cameo in Expendables, along with newcomers to the franchise, legendary action stars Jean-Claude Van Damme (who plays the film’s villain) and Chuck Norris. Chinese actress Nan Yu and Liam Hemsworth also star.

“It was pretty nerveracking to be sitting there and have all eyes on me the first day and be like, ‘C’mon kid, show us what you got,’ ” Hemsworth, who is the brother of Thor star Chris Hemsworth, told the New York Daily News’ Ethan Sacks in March.

But in all honesty, there’s only one part of the Expendables 2 trailer I really loved to see, and that’s Arnold Schwarzenegger blasting away in the 1-second moment of the trailer.

Having grown on up on the former bodybuilders action films, it was awesome to see him back to his old tricks. Sure, he’s getting old (along with most of the other actors in the cast), but who gives a crap.

He’s Schwarzenegger, man!

There was a time when that name above the movie title would send other movies scrambling. I don’t know that he can become that iconic presence again, but I for one am glad he’s no longer running California and is back on the big screen.

And lets face it, Schwarzenegger and Stallone in a movie together is something that anyone who grew up on their action movies in the 1980s wanted. Its rare that such a pair really comes about.

Paul Newman and Robert Redford did just two movies together. For years afterwards fans of both actors hoped they would team up again. For a while there were reports they would, but Newman’s unfortunate passing dashed those hopes.

So for that reason alone, I for one will be seeing this one opening weekend for The Expendables 2 on August 17.
